About Polish Lower Silesia
Polish Lower Silesia is a beautiful historic undiscovered destination in the heart of Europe – castles, palaces, adventure and great hospitality. One of the most beautiful areas in Europe not just Poland. Mountains, rivers, lakes and so much more to see.
Get out... Beautiful mountain ranges, snowy winters and a tradition of skiing make Poland a great place for ski holidays. But Lower Silesia is about so much more than skiing. you can go hiking and mountain biking. Get out on the lakes and rivers kayaking, rafting and swimming - we even have a local beach with pedalo's and beach bars!
The surrounding countryside is amazing for horse riding where we have several local centres that specialise in breeding and lessons with Icelandic ponies.
About Ploczki Gorne
The village of Ploczki Gorne is believed to be the second oldest recorded village in Poland (c1346)and still retains many "Bohemian" half-timbered farm houses which date back 200-300 years. On the slopes of the surrounding hills are deposits of agate which are considered by many to be the most beautiful in Europe.
Plóczki Górne is the perfect starting point from which you can explore the natural beauty of the mountains, the mysteries of Walloon settlers, visit old castles, places where uranium for the first Soviet atomic bomb was mined or, as many insist, treasures of the Third Reich still lie hidden. It is also an attractive location for hiking, cycling, angling, bird and wild-game watching and winter sports. Excellent ski slopes are available a short drive away. The secluded valley is also a comfortable drive away from Berlin, Prague and Wroclaw which makes it a uniquely tranquil setting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life within easy access of the "bright lights" for those who feel the need.
Meet Chester the camel
The largest pet in Plóczki Górne. He is a Bactrian camel. Everybody in the village calls him Czesiek (Chester). He was born in the Gobi Desert but he has lived in Lover Silesia for 12 years. He loves people and posing for photos.
About the local town – Lwowek Slaski (4km)
Lwówek Slaski belongs to the group of the oldest towns in Lower Silesia.
The oldest brewery in Europe is in Lwowek. It was founded in 1209 and recently came into private ownership and will soon again commence the brewing of the famous (and delicious) unpasteurized brew known as beer Lwóweckie Princes. The beers brewed in Lwówek have won many awards. Next to the brewery, a Lower Silesian brewing museum has been opened.
Lwówek Agate Summer Festival is the largest Mineral Marketplace in this part of Europe, and is the most important event held in the town. It takes place every year in July. Exhibitors from all around the world present their minerals. The name agate is possibly derived from the river Achates (nowadays Dirillo) in Sicily or from the word “Aqiq” (the name of the oasis in Medyna where in the old days it was excavated) It could also perhaps come from the from greek word “agathos” which simply means good.
